[ Pillar 01 ]
End-to-end bid management, writing, coordination and review.
At Pretty Smart, we work closely with you every step of the way, gaining a deep understanding of your business needs and ensuring every aspect of the bid reflects your unique strengths. We develop a bespoke bidding strategy that speaks directly to the needs of the project, emphasising your key win themes and USPs for maximum impact. Our fractional model gives you Bid Director expertise embedded in your team, without the full-time cost. Strategic thinking, expert writing and meticulous governance: giving your submission the best possible chance of success.
From capture planning and storyboarding to developing compelling win themes, we partner with you every step of the way. We review your written content, offer expert guidance, and provide clear, manageable deliverables that keep the process on track and ensure every aspect of your submission meets the highest standards.
We craft persuasive narratives that highlight your USPs and score well with evaluators. We ensure every aspect of the ITT is addressed, create a logical structure within tender guidelines, and conduct a thorough post-submission debrief to capture learnings for future bids.
An independent, senior-level challenge and review service. We act as an objective sense-check at the key decision points of a bid: strategy and bid/no-bid, storyboard and first draft, and final pre-submission review. We stress-test the submission exactly as an evaluator would read it. We test whether the win themes are real and evidenced, whether every scored criterion is genuinely answered, whether the claims stand up to scrutiny, and where a panel would mark you down. You receive direct, constructive feedback and a prioritised list of what to fix while there is still time to fix it.
Pretty Smart supports organisations with UK Government and other grant funding applications, applying the same rigour and structure used in tender writing to grant submissions, from eligibility assessment and narrative development through to submission.
Social value now carries real weight in public sector scoring, often 10% or more of the total marks. We write compelling, evidence-based social value responses that align with desired social value frameworks and your specific contract's outcomes, from local employment and skills to carbon reduction and community wellbeing. We help you avoid generic claims and instead build a credible, measurable narrative that scores well and that you can actually deliver.
We manage every detail of the bid process: portal management, tender document circulation, clarification logs, responsibilities matrices, progress reporting, checklist updates and final submission. Your team stays informed and on track throughout, so nothing falls through the cracks.
We review your draft submission against the scoring criteria, suggest targeted amendments to strengthen quality, correct errors, and ensure your key differentiators are prominent throughout, maximising the impact of your response before you press submit.
We structure your bid documentation and past tender responses into a centralised, searchable Bid Library, making it easy for your team to access best practice, reuse strong content and maintain consistency across submissions.
We support you through the Pre-Qualification Questionnaire stage, ensuring every question is comprehensively addressed and your organisation's strengths clearly presented, maximising your chances of progressing to ITT.
Our experienced bid writers and managers integrate seamlessly into your team to take your bid from enquiry through to submission, covering kick-off meetings, SME interviews, progress management and final submission. We also offer a Critical Friend service: an independent, honest review of your bid strategy before you submit.

[ Pillar 02 ]
Process review, lessons learnt and post-tender debrief.
A structured diagnostic review of your organisation's current bid or business processes, benchmarked against Lean Six Sigma principles, identifying quick wins and longer-term improvements to save time, reduce cost and improve quality.
An ongoing, part-time embedded advisory service where Pretty Smart works inside your organisation on a fractional basis, reviewing current bid and business-development processes against best practice and providing structured recommendations. Unlike the one-off Process Health Check, this is a sustained advisory relationship: regular time on-site or remote, working directly with your team to embed better practice over weeks or months rather than a single audit.
We analyse your past bids and current practices, identifying inefficiencies and embedding improvements into your Business Development Process, including Lean Six Sigma-informed methods that remove wasted effort from every submission. We work directly with your team, building knowledge and confidence to navigate the bidding process more effectively and consistently.
Applicable to bids, projects and wider organisational processes, not only bid work. Facilitated review workshops capture what worked, what didn't, and concrete actions for next time, turning outcomes, good and bad, into institutional learning rather than one-off experience. We run these after tenders, after project delivery milestones, and as part of broader continuous improvement programmes. We design and facilitate structured workshops bringing together the people closest to the work: bid managers, project and delivery leads, subject matter experts, commercial and operational teams. Pre-workshop we gather input through structured questionnaires and conversations; post-workshop we produce a Lessons Learnt Report with prioritised recommendations and a clear action plan. Available in-person or remotely, for individual bids or projects, or as periodic portfolio and process reviews.
Formal evaluation feedback from a buyer is one of the most valuable moments in the bid cycle, yet most organisations don't request it, don't know how to interpret it, or file it away without acting on it. We support you in requesting feedback, analysing scores and comments, benchmarking your position against the winning bid, and translating findings into specific improvements. Every engagement concludes with a written summary report your team can reference going forward. Available standalone or as the starting point for a full Lessons Learnt Workshop.

[ Pillar 03 ]
Lean Six Sigma, bid training and knowledge transfer.
Lean Six Sigma is a proven methodology focused on eliminating waste, reducing variation and improving quality. At Pretty Smart we apply this thinking to bid management and broader operational processes, with a proven record of removing wasted time from the bid cycle. We offer Yellow Belt, Green Belt and Black Belt certification training, delivered in person across the UK or remotely. Services include: process audits and waste identification, governance framework design, certification training, and in-house workshops tailored to your sector.
Our practical Bid Writing Training and Workshops equip your team with the skills and confidence to produce high-quality, competitive tender responses independently. Led by Priti Diniz with nearly 20 years of bid leadership experience, training covers bid best practice, persuasive writing, win theme development, response structure, compliance and governance. Half-day and full-day workshops, bespoke sector-specific programmes, and ongoing coaching available. In-person or remote. CPD-accredited options on request.
Bid writing and best-practice training for teams responding to World Bank, multilateral development bank and other donor-funded tenders. We cover proposal structure, evaluation criteria, compliance and win-theme development for the international development funding environment. Delivered in person or remotely, including for teams based outside the UK.
Every organisation has knowledge that cannot be found in any document. It lives in the experience of your most senior people: in how they bring teams together under bid pressure, what they know about specific buyers, how commercial risk is navigated, and what delivery actually looks like on the ground. When those people retire or move on, that knowledge walks out of the door with them. Pretty Smart offers a structured Knowledge Transfer & Legacy service to capture, document and transfer that expertise before it is lost, protecting organisational capability across Bid, Operations, BD, Commercial, Procurement and Legal. Services include Cross-Functional Knowledge Mapping, Knowledge Capture Workshops, Bid Knowledge Transfer Programme, Operational & Commercial Knowledge Libraries, Cross-Functional Bid Onboarding and Bid Knowledge Audit.

[ Pillar 04 ]
Bid team design, role definition and internal capability.
Building the right bid function is as important as winning the bid itself. We advise organisations on how to structure their bid team around their pipeline, defining the shape of the function, the roles required at each level, and the competencies, responsibilities and success measures that sit behind them. We help you write clear role briefs and job descriptions, design competency frameworks and interview criteria your own hiring team can use, benchmark structures against comparable organisations, and plan onboarding and development so new people become productive quickly. This is an advisory service only: we do not source, screen, introduce or place candidates. You run your recruitment; we make sure you are recruiting for the right roles, against the right standards, into a function designed to perform.
